About John Ball Zoo
The John Ball Zoo is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of wildlife through education. They do this through several different activities. They provide an excellent facility that promotes good animal husbandry, and they offer diverse learning opportunities for their guests. The zoo also enhances the recreational and entertainment opportunities found in the Grand Rapids area, and they regularly participate in research and conservation programs.
Celebrating the Wonders of Nature
The John Ball Zoo celebrates the wonder of nature in many ways. One of which is their Members’ Nights. This event is open to anyone who has a zoo membership. They get an up close behind the scenes look at specific animal exhibits.
The RendeZoo is an annual fundraiser that many consider “the best party in town.” It grows each year with the help of members and visitors alike. The money raised goes for animal care, providing financial resources for the many exhibits, educational programs, and special zoo experiences.
Membership
Having a membership to the John Ball Zoo allows you to visit frequently and experience all the recreational and learning opportunities available at the zoo. Memberships help support the facility’s conservation program and activities.
Not only members, but anyone can rent both indoor and outdoor venues at the zoo. They have casual and elegant locations available so that there is something to fit any budget. Groups can be intimate affairs or large corporate functions. It is the ideal setting for birthday parties as well. Choose form their ballroom, Bissell Tree House, or rent the entire zoo.
Educational Programs
The John Ball Zoo celebrates the wonder of nature through educational programs throughout the year. These programs are perfect for scouting groups, school groups, and family or youth programs. Behind the scenes programs are offered at the zoo while events such as “Let the Zoo Come to You” and library programs allow the zoo to bring their education services to the community.
Conservation
The John Ball Zoo’s Wildlife Conservation Fund has existed for 20 years, and it has provided more than 100 projects. This includes conserving wildlife in 30 countries. The fund offers educational programs that help communities learn about their local wildlife. In Grand Rapids, they’ve installed interpretive graphics at Palomita Reserve showing the bacteria found in the habitat of salamanders in The Great Lakes region.
